Linear Wave Springs
Designed to provide consistent force along a straight path, Linear Springs deliver reliable loading in a compact configuration. Their wave-formed flat-wire design provides predictable low-to-medium loads in narrow cavities where conventional coil springs are impractical.
- Consistent Force Across Linear Travel
Provides reliable load and deflection characteristics throughout variable spring lengths.
- Compact Design
Delivers force in a straight-line configuration where conventional coil springs are impractical.
- Ideal for Narrow Linear Cavities
Designed for applications requiring spring force within limited installation space.
Overview
Smalley Linear Springs are continuous wave-formed (marcelled) wire lengths manufactured from spring-tempered materials. Produced from flat wire, they are designed as load-bearing devices that provide load and deflection characteristics similar to traditional wave springs. When installed flat in a straight line, Linear Springs generate force in a compact, non-coiled configuration.
Their unique linear design makes them ideal for applications requiring consistent force along a straight path, particularly where space limitations prevent the use of conventional coiled springs. Commonly used in mechanical seals, detent mechanisms, and rotary vane pumps, they deliver reliable low-to-medium loads and predictable performance within narrow linear cavities.

Applications
Smalley Linear Springs are used to load pins positioned within grooves, allowing a rotating component to detent at specific positions. The springs are designed to exert a precise load that provides the desired rotational resistance.
In rotary vane pumps, Smalley Linear Springs apply a consistent radial force beneath the vanes, helping maintain contact with the bore for improved sealing and reliable performance throughout the operating cycle.
