Marcel Expanders
Designed to generate radial force rather than axial force, Marcel Expanders apply uniform outward pressure within an assembly. They are commonly specified for seal energization, alignment, and tolerance take-up applications where consistent radial loading is required.
- Radial Force Generation
Provides inward or outward force in an assembly rather than typical axial load.
- Seal Energization
Applies radial force behind seals when system pressure is unavailable.
- Tolerance & Alignment Control
Helps self-center assemblies and compensate for clearance or tolerance variation.
Overview
Marcel Expanders are single-turn, flat-wire wave springs coiled into a circular shape to generate radial force. They provide outward pressure within an assembly rather than the axial force produced by most other spring types. Common applications include energizing seals, self-centering assemblies, and compensating for tolerance variation or clearance between mating components.
Smalley’s Marcel springs are custom manufactured to your exact application requirements. Available in standard and exotic materials, they can be designed with direct support from Smalley's engineering team to meet the unique demands of each application.
