Overview
Hoopster® Retaining Rings are single-turn retaining rings designed for applications with limited radial space. Their low-profile design features minimal radial projection and shallow groove depth, making them ideal for thin-walled cylinders and housings. Hoopsters provide reliable retention for light-to-medium thrust load applications while helping engineers maximize usable space within an assembly.
Unlike conventional stamped retaining rings, Hoopsters are manufactured by coiling flat wire on edge using Smalley's proprietary edgewinding process. This method produces a square-edge retaining ring with Circular-Grain® metallurgy for improved strength. Their flexible ring ends enable easy installation and removal without specialized tools, while optional removal provisions further simplify disassembly.
Removal Provisions for Internal Hoopster Retaining Rings
Internal Hoopster® Retaining Rings are available with or without bent ends that serve as a removal provision. This feature provides a convenient point for ring extraction during maintenance or disassembly.
Hoopster series without removal provisions are designated with a "U" suffix.
